Introduction                  _______________________________________

We have been studying about the different classes of rocks in class.  We need your help in making new catchy diagrams of the rock cycle for other schools that do not have computers.  These diagrams can use cool pictures of rocks and the different processes that change them.

To begin our study, let’s use the internet to uncover some important information about the rocks, weathering, deposition, and actual geology behind the never-ending rock cycle.

Task         ________________________________________________

The goal of this project is to verify the information that you have learned on rocks and the rock cycle in class.  The information you collect will be used to create your own diagram of the rock cycle for the other schools.  The poster of the rock cycle will be made on the computer and then printed out for you.

The final product will be a completed web quest and rock cycle diagram done on the computer.  Be creative use pictures and drawings.

You need to read the question and then answer only the question that is being asked for each number.  Use the links directly below each question to answer it.  Your answers are different steps of the rock cycle.  One answer may be used more than once in the rock cycle. So go and explore the web using only these hyperlinks and the links within their pages to answer the questions.

Let the Search Begin!

Answer the following questions using the links directly below the question.  Write down your answers that you come up within the space provided.  The answers will be used to create your very own rock cycle diagram.

  1. What is a rock and what are the three classes of rocks? (these will be your three main classes for the cycle diagram)

2.   How do the rocks from fire form?

3.   What are deformed rocks called and how does this happen?

4.   What breaks down all of the rock classes?

5.   What happens to the rocks after they are weathered?

6.   How are sediments cemented together and what do they form?

This is a link to a rock cycle diagram; use it as an idea for your poster.

Conclusion                   _________________________________________

Through this CyberSearch, you have begun your own electronic research into the exploration of the geologic rock cycle.  While many of your questions about the cycle were probably answered, the nature of the forces may leave students asking more questions.  In the spaces below, list two more questions you have about the rock cycle.  List any other links that you may have found useful during this CyberSearch.
